About us
Bramhall Blenkharn Leonard are a multi-award winning architectural practice operating in York and surrounding suburbs. We specialise in large bespoke residential architecture, bespoke commercial, including public buildings and listed buildings.
We believe that each project requires a tailored design-led approach and our practice has a strong track record of creative and high quality architectural design in challenging and sensitive locations.
The studio has delivered a number of significant heritage and contemporary projects in York and the surrounding suburbs and has over 25 years' experience of working in York city centre.
Current Projects
We are currently working on the conversion of a significant Grade II listed hall in York for a private family. This project involves inserting a new extension to form a large open plan family kitchen in the old servant quarters and extensive landscape alterations including a tennis court and new driveways.
We have also been appointed as fabric repair architects for sensitive masonry repairs and re-roofing of listed buildings in York. We have extensive experience of working with local and national bodies to deliver complex heritage buildings and fabric repairs. Our Directors work closely with civic bodies and have sat on the York Conservation Area Advisory Panel to review conservation projects in the city.
Projects in York
The majority of our projects in York are through client referral and typically for larger bespoke residential and listed buildings and difficult or sensitive sites where our reputation for attention to detail, quality and craftsmanship is highly valued.
We have a strong record of success with York Planning and York Conservation Team, working closely with Conservation Officers and Development Control to delivery beautiful and considered buildings in York. We have worked on a number of listed buildings and heritage assets in York, enabling sensitively-considered and designed alterations and extensions through a careful analysis of the significance of the Non-Designated Heritage Assets.
Awards in York
We have won a number of awards in York including the 2019 York Design Awards where our practice won both the Large Residential Award for Heslington House and the special Lord Mayor's Award. We also won the Frank Elliott Legacy Project to extend St Olave's Church in York with a contemporary extension to the Grade I Listed church on Marygate. Most recently we won both the Best Design Project and Best Designer at the Yorkshire Residential Property Awards
